Hot on the heels of the Missouri Mission of Mercy's free dental clinic last weekend, our office is partnering with The Oral Cancer Foundation to offer FREE oral cancer screenings on Thursday, May 16^thfrom 2:30-5:00 PM!   

Oral cancer is one of the deadliest types of cancer because it is so often detected too late, making the five year survival rate less than 1 in 2 diagnosed.  However--caught early--the five year survival rates jumps to 80%!

Although the most common risk factor for oral cancer is tobacco and/or alcohol use, HPV16 is the fastest growing risk factor of this disease.  HPV16 (human papilloma virus version 16 which is also responsible for 95% of cervical cancers in women) is responsible for increasing numbers of young, non-smokers being diagnosed with oral cancer!  

Several risk factors for oral cancer can be controlled by you such as sun exposure, tobacco/alcohol use, and being sure to maintain a well balanced diet rich in fruits & vegetables.  While others such as HPV16, age, ethnicity, socio-economic issues, recurrence, and gender we have little control.  For these reasons, early detection is key!  Take advantage of your FREE oral cancer screening!  It just may save your life!

This event is open to the public as a free public service.  The exam takes approximately 5 minutes.  You do not have to be a patient of our practice to attend.  There is no need to make an appointment; walk-ins are welcome & will be seen in a first come, first served manner.  However, you can call our office to reserve a screening appointment if you prefer at 573.334.8884.
